SPRING CONFERENCES:
Please
sign up for a spring conference. If you cannot make any of the allotted times,
please see me to arrange an alternative. At this conference, I will share your
child’s spring report.
HOMEWORK
This week’s homework asks students practice
describing (something we do in writing and science). Students can use sensory
details (what the see, hear, feel, smell, or taste) to describe color, shape,
texture, and size.
Students will continue to practice counting the value
of a group of coins and to make amounts of money using Pennies, Nickels, Dimes, and Quarters. Students also have the opportunity to make an assignment
for someone at home to try.
The challenge and super challenge are absolutely optional. They are there for students
that are really seeking some extra math enrichment.
CONVERSATION STARTERS
·
How
did we make our class Earth day project? How did we use team work to make this
project? How did we reuse and recycle materials to make this project?
·
What
are some ways that you can reduce, reuse or recycle to help take care of the
earth ?
·
What
were some things you observed about your insect during projects?
·
What
are some words with er? ir? ur?
Word
Wall Words
coat grow
know right night
Next week we will learn about
the long o sound that both oa and ow can make,
like in goat, coat, grow and show.
We will also talk about the
long I sound that ight makes, like
in light and night.
MATH
Students continued to practice adding groups of
coins, and choosing coins to make a given amount. Next week we will begin learning
about fact families. (For example: 2,3,5. If you know 2+3 = 5, then you also
know 3+2 = 5 and 5-2=3 and 5-3= 2.)
SCIENCE
We are diving right into our insect unit this week.
We began observing insects and reading books to learn about their characteristics.
Next week, we will be getting real mealworms in our class. We will observe
their full life cycle as they change from mealworms to a pupa and finally into
a darkling beetle. Later in May, we will observe real caterpillars as they
change into butterflies.
We will also learn about different body parts that
insects have and how those specific boy parts help insect to move, eat, and
protect themselves.
