FAMILY BREAKFAST

We are planning our end of the year family breakfast for Friday June 7^th. Due to the schedule and other events at Devotion, that is the day that will work. We hope you’ll be able to join us from 8-8:45 am to celebrate your child’s great progress in first grade. Parents, siblings, and other special people are very welcome to join.  More information and sign-up to follow.

HOMEWORK

This week students will reflect on the changes they have observed with their mealworms and pupas.

Students will also search for words with a long e sound made by the vowel pairs ee and ea.

This week, we again worked with the rule, “When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking.” So when ee or ea are together, we hear the long e sound.

Next week’s words:

out         our         down       house

In these words the ou and ow make the same sound, like in plow or out. It’s a little tricky with English, because ow also makes a long o sound like in snow and grow. 

MATH

We have played games practiced our doubles facts in an effort to commit doubles facts to memory. We will began to explore the Doubles Plus 1 Strategy: “If I know 3+3=6, then I know 3+4=7”.

SCIENCE

It has been an exciting week of observing our mealworms. Many students have observed that their mealworms have turned into pupas. These pupas will remain still and quiet as they change into Darkling Beetles. We will likely see some beetles soon!
