FAMILY BREAKFAST
We are planning our end of the year family breakfast for Friday June 7th. Due to the schedule and other events at Devotion, that is the day that will work. We hope you’ll be able to join us from 8-8:45 am to celebrate your child’s great progress in first grade. Parents, siblings, and other special people are very welcome to join.  More information and sign-up to follow.

HOMEWORK
This week students will reflect on the things we learned from our visit from the Museum of Science. We learned about different types of Life Cycles and even met a frog and a tortoise!

MATH
We continued to practice the Doubles Plus 1 Strategy: “If I know 3+3=6, then I know 3+4=7”.

We also learned about odd (1, 3, 5, 7...) and even (0,2,4,6,8...) numbers. Even numbers have a partner, and odd numbers have one left over.

SCIENCE
It continues to be exciting to observe our mealworms. This week, we were able to watch a darkling beetle break out of its pupa shell. It was incredible for the kids to see. Many more beetles will emerge in the coming weeks.

Next week we will get caterpillars in our classroom. We will observe these caterpillars turn into Painted Lady Butterflies.

Our Enrichment and Challenge Support teacher, Mrs. Miller, will be coming into our class on Wednesday afternoons for the remainder of the school year. She will be leading our class in some experiments with air.

Word Wall Words

out        our        down      house

In these words the ou and ow make the same sound, like in plow or out. It’s a little tricky with English, because ow also makes a long o sound like in snow and grow.

Next Week’s Words:

can’t      don’t      won’t      didn’t

We will study contractions next week. In these words, we squish two words together and the apostrophe takes the place of a letter or letters (do not becomes don’t).
